Unite Nations Industrial Development Organization. Some of the international agreements to which New Zealand is a party, include: Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures. Convention on Biological Diversity. An AMA is defined by a regional or territorial authority i. The regional council develops regional plans and policy statements in order to manage coastal resources, including aquaculture, and the plans are approved by the Department of Conservation. The aquaculture legislation also provides a new process whereby the regional council can invite members of the aquaculture sector to promote a change to a regional coastal plan, and provide for a new AMA. Should the AMA be successful designated, then the proponents gain preferential access to specific aquaculture coastal permits authorised within that AMA. Among other things, the plans set limits on the aquaculture activities and specify limits on the character, intensity, or scale of activities. Regional rules created from regional plans, are treated as regulations promulgated under the RMA.

“Farmer Seeks Farmer” is an innovative online Dutch scheme, akin to a dating site, that aims to match up farmers without an heir with new blood looking to make a life in farming.
Online matchmaker aims to save Dutch farms with no heirs August 11, by Charlotte Van Ouwerkerk Many Dutch farmers, such as dairy producer Gerard Hartveld, who have no family to step into their boots when they retire, face the uncertainty of ensuring their land and livelihoods continue for another generation Standing in his rubber boots in his fields surrounded by his beloved Red Holstein cows, Dutch farmer Gerard Hartveld has an air of resignation as he contemplates the future.
Hartveld says he is a dairy farmer in “his heart” and soul. Yet, his heart is heavy knowing that, like many who work the land today in The Netherlands, he has no-one to inherit his family farm. The figures are staggering. Some 60 percent of those aged over 55 have no-one to whom they can bequeath their land, according to the Dutch central statistics office CBS. That means some 15, farms could disappear in the next decade, with more than eight out of 10 sheep farmers, who are reaching retirement, having no successors.
Although pig and cow farmers are faring slightly better, most family farms have witnessed an exodus of the younger generation as they desert the fields and barns in their droves lured by the promise of fortunes to be made in the city. Hartveld’s farm in central Nieuwveen has been in his family for more than a century—since He knows every inch of the land as well as his cows, including the doyens of the strong dairy herd, Miranda and Greta. But with no children, the time will come “in 15 years or so, not before”, when this reserved year-old man of few words will see the land and his herd “pass out of the family” to be taken over by strangers.
Save the sheep This is where an innovative Dutch scheme seeks to step in, aiming to rescue such farms which make up an integral part of the landscape in the lowlands country. Thomas Legrand is a year-old Frenchman, who, with his Dutch girlfriend, is looking for a farm to run. But with no contacts in the farming world, the couple are turning to an online service called “Farmer Seeks Farmer. Backed by the Young Farmers’ Association, pig farmer Sander Thus has been working with the online scheme putting those close to retirement in contact with young would-be farmers seeking their own patch of agricultural land.
The Matainaka Lagoon now known as Hawksbury Lagoon was a major whitebait spawning area as indicated by its Maori name , and the Waikouaiti River was a rich source of food. Settlement was focused around Huriawa, Puketeraki and Karitane. In the nineteenth century the centre of the takiwa was at Puketeraki overlooking Waikouaiti Bay.
The prominent headland on which Matanaka Farm sits was called Ohineamio. There were scattered small camps of people associated with Huriawa and Puketeraki for collecting shellfish, eels, and other sites at places like Matanaka and Brinns Point where there was a good view of the rest of the coast line.

Pig hunting 1st of 2 Early pig farming Kunekune and Captain Cookers were the first pigs to be introduced to New Zealand. They were kept in households to use up scraps of food, and this diet was supplemented with grain. The pigs were eventually killed for meat. Polynesian pigs A study analysed DNA from ancient pig remains and concluded that Polynesians and pigs did not follow the same path to the Pacific.
It is traditionally believed that Polynesians and their pigs originated in Taiwan, but the study suggests that the pig came from Vietnam, and may have been collected by people migrating down through the Philippines to New Guinea and then to the Pacific. Feral breeds Feral pigs are those that are no longer farmed and have gone wild.

StudioFarazBashir April 17 is the International Day of Peasant Struggle, commemorating the massacre of 19 peasants struggling for land and justice in Brazil in Every year on that day actions take place around the world in defense of peasants and small-scale farmers struggling for their rights. In recent years, we have suffered from the implementation of new policies and of a new development model based on land expansion and land expropriation, commonly known as land grabbing.
Land grabbing has resulted in the concentration of the ownership of land and natural resources in the hands of a variety of pressure-groups which include, large-scale investors, plantation owners, logging, hydro-power and mining companies, tourism and real estate developers, port and infrastructures authorities, and so forth.
This has led to the eviction and displacement of the local populations — usually farmers, the violation of human rights and women rights, increased poverty, social fracture and environmental pollution.
