We spend several months a year on the road and camp a majority of the time without hookups. My ex-Marine husband will camp anywhere, but I do not care to camp in remote areas by ourselves. My husband says I am being silly. Recently we camped in Big Bend with a backcountry permit. We found several sites that we could drive our rig without doing any damage. I admit it was beautiful, no noise or light pollution, and we love natural settings and hiking. However, I felt we were too isolated at the end of a dead-end road. Am I being silly?

The answer is simple. Purchase a specialized antenna designed to pick up over the air broadcasting from the local HDTV stations in your area. It will vary widely based on your location. Anyway the big wild card on these things as was heavily discussed in a previous thread is how to hook it up to an aluminum v-nose trailer, without interfering with door, very limited tongue length, etc. So I welded this thing I will lovingly call “contraption” out of scraps I had laying around. The big mandrel bent square piece that is the meat of the whole thing is actually a chunk of a roll bar cut from an old commercial ZTR mower. Contraption is held in position by 3 bolts, one thru the tongue, one thru each angled side brace.
None of these bolts bear any weight, they just keep contraption from moving out of position. The extent of mods to the trailer? I can remove contraption at any time in 3 minutes by removing the 3 bolts. After getting the distribution adjusted properly I test drove it today with full load It was absolutely night and day how the truck handles differently on dips and bridge approaches. So much smoother and more stable with it than without.
For me this had nothing to do with correcting any squat The real benefit is that it shares all the bouncing from bumps with all 4 truck shocks instead of just the back ones It is not uncommon for me to tow 5, miles per winter, thru some pretty gnarly stuff and ice heaved back roads at times, and I want every advantage I can get. So I’ll certainly be honest and report back if something ever breaks or if I have a problem with it, but frankly not expected.
