He was diagnosed about 7 or 8 years ago, on meds for a while then we just ignored the problem thinking it would go away. Three years ago I left after a very bad manic episode and he would not seek any professional help. When I said I was leaving it turned into an even worse episode that landed him in jail for a DUI I think he was trying to kill himself with the use of the car. I left for two months and he did everything right. Got help, swore he would stay on meds, let me have my freedom, etc. I thought I had to give it another shot for the man I loved, our dogs, cat and the life we had built together.
Dating a Person with Bipolar … How to know when to hold on, and realize when to let go.
Member 5 years on site 7 posts I’m very new to this so please bear with me. I’ve been dating this man, we’re both in our late 20’s, for the past three months who is bipolar. We met on a dating website and he told me immediately that he was diagnosed bipolar. He was diagnosed in college but has never been off his meds and sees a psychiatrist every few months.
Whether or not you are dating someone with bipolar disorder, it’s important to discuss major topics, when you are both ready. For instance, if you really want children, but the person you are dating does not, this may be a deal breaker.
This definitely answered a lot of my question. None of it made sense at that time, now it does. Towards the end I did notice it became a one way relationship…his way. I no longer was able to hold on and I broke it off. This is where it hit the fan….. Please help me understand. When I said it was over and this time he will not be able to push my buttons and bring me back, this was the final straw.

Next Dating A Bipolar Man? I recently dated a bipolar man who wanted to be in a relationship. We barely met for about a month, and he started calling me his soulmate. Then after not being able to spend as much time with me, he started creating fights and drama out of nowhere, cursing, and then getting really irrational with me. I stayed and talked it out with him, and then he started avoiding me. A few times, he’s been playful with me in a way where he’d punch me really hard.
As much as I treat him as I would anybody else, at what point does being bipolar become an excuse for poor behavior? I have a friend who is bipolar too, and we treat each other really well. My question is- is the whirlwinded romance common with men with bipolar? I just don’t understand how much he can switch from claiming that we are bestfriends one minute, then complete strangers next minute. He told me that he has BP, and feels as though he’s taking advantage of the system, because he doesn’t think he actually has it, as it was due to his alcohol abuse.

Anybody have experience dating a bipolar bitch? Quote posted by FLEX4USML Yeah thats what is seems like, its a rollercoaster ride from hell,And MAdd I have educated myself and I have delt with tons of shit I don’t have to,point is I don’t have to,just wanted some outside views, hers is to a level where she’s supposed to be taking lithium but she refuses to bc she doesn’t like the way she feels on it,or as she says “wasting money on it”,waste my ass!
You cannot help this woman. She will only destroy you. The relationship will end badly eventually, better to get out now. Bipolar under the best of conditions can be tough on the people they love; uncontrolled, it’s insanity and will make you insane. Lithium is a generic, it’s not expensive so that’s a BS excuse. She’s delusional when she’s on the upside and deluding herself. People in the manic state think they’re functioning “better”.
